Welcome to an event that is all about board games!
The event will take you from understanding how board games work to understanding how to design them. During the event you will experience four parts:
A special feature of the event is that it will be embedded in the world's largest board game Trade Fair (Essen Spiel). We will run a Dragon Legion booth together and present games to visitors.
We strongly suggest that you only apply for this event if you enjoy playing board games because there will be a lot of gaming. However, there is no requirement to be any good at it and you don't need any experience either.
All you need is the right attitude and the willingness to try something new. We are looking for people who enjoy being creative in groups in an international environment.
Currently we can only accept participants from the following countries:
Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Sweden.
The application is open to everyone between the ages of 18 and 30. All applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the coordination team. The best applications will be chosen and the participants will be notified. The application phase will close by the middle of June 2019. Expect to get a reply no later than the end of June.
IMPORTANT: We will go through the applications as they arrive and we will select participants even before the application deadline closes until all slots are filled. This means your chances are higher if you write a good application and if you submit it early. We will regularly post updates here to inform you if the slots of the participating countries have been filled.
The event will take place from:
October 20th - 27th 2019
(Please remember that the day before and the day after will be travel days to get you to and from the event.)
We will be staying at a camp in small houses in which we do our own cooking in small groups. Food and drinks during the event are included. More details about the place can be found here - Feriendorf Wamel.
We usually have a free day during our events but we won't do that this time because we have very little time for workshops, thanks to the Essen Game Fair. However, if you want to extend your stay in Germany we will work with you to make that possible.
We guarantee you a flight with a carry-on bag and in most cases participants have no problem packing everything they need in such a bag. Should you decide that you need a checked bag the extra costs will be on you (unless you are lucky and your flight includes a checked bag which can happen occasionally).
We cover the travel costs for the flight, the travel from the airport to our location, lodging, food and drinks and any group activities. You just need to take care of your travel to the airport in your home country.
The event is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union that supports intercultural exchange of young people. This allows us to cover most parts of the travel costs and accommodation costs for the participants.
We have a very tight budget and we would love to pay for everyone but we simply can't. With the fees of 40 Euro / 50 Euro we can pay for the budget overrun so that we don't end up paying extra for the event. We think this is a good price for a week of board gaming experience, including food, accommodation and travel.
If you cannot afford the fee but still want to participate please give a statement about it in your application. We know there are bad situations in some countries right now and we want to make sure that everyone has the chance to be part of this event, so we decided to have 1-2 slots for free for those who really need them. Please don't abuse this.
The people behind this event are active members of the Dragon Legion, young people who are interested in cultural exchange, creating innovative events, and board games. We are all volunteers who organize this in our free time.
We certainly hope so. We have held this type of event for the first time in 2017 and we want to make it a regular event. If you are from a country that is not eligible at the moment you could get in touch with us and help us open up the next event for your country as well. Contact email: info [at] dragon-legion.com
Most of the events we are running are role-playing events but we are open to suggestions if you want to get involved with this.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. Just send us an email: info [at] dragon-legion.com or use the contact form.
Once we received and checked your application you will get a confirmation email.
